Regulations and Measures for Noise Protection and Acoustic Comfort

Framework Law No. 447/1995 establishes the fundamental principles for protecting the external and indoor environment from noise pollution, defining the responsibilities of the State, Regions, Provinces, and Municipalities. In implementation of this law, the Prime Ministerial Decree (D.P.C.M.) of 5 December 1997 established the passive acoustic requirements of buildings, setting minimum sound insulation performance standards according to the intended use of the building.<br>The decree specifies the limit values to be met for five acoustic parameters relating to: Sound insulation between adjacent spaces (walls and floors); Insulation from external noise (building façades); Noise levels generated by continuous and intermittent building service systems. These regulations ensure improved acoustic comfort in homes, educational facilities, and workplaces, contributing to the protection of health from noise pollution.
