Reaction to Fire of Sound-Absorbing Panels

For acoustic correction in public environments such as restaurants, bars, and high-occupancy spaces, 2B Resine exclusively adopts expanded materials that comply with current fire safety regulations.

In particular:

  • they comply with CE marking, ensuring conformity with the essential safety and health requirements established by European Directives;
  • they meet the requirements of UNI EN 13501-1, which governs the fire reaction classification of construction products and building elements;
  • they are selected in accordance with the Italian Fire Prevention Code (Ministerial Decree of 3 August 2015) and the related Vertical Technical Regulations (RTV).

2B Resine S.r.l. operates as a downstream user of sound-absorbing materials, using such materials as integral components of its acoustic systems, without being the direct manufacturer.

The materials used are sourced exclusively from qualified companies that comply with applicable technical and regulatory standards and are accompanied by mandatory and voluntary certifications attesting to their performance, safety, and compliance.

European Regulations on the Reaction to Fire of Acoustic Materials

2B Resine prioritizes the use of materials with high reaction-to-fire classifications (B-s1,d0 for melamine resin and B-s2,d0 for polyester fiber), appropriate to the intended use of the premises (escape routes, public assembly areas, technical rooms), with more stringent requirements applied to high-occupancy spaces.

EUROCLASS CLASSIFICATION: MEANING OF B-s1,d0

The Euroclass classification system defines the fire performance of materials through a combination of letters and numbers. In the case of class B-s1,d0, the parameters indicate that the material must exhibit:

B: combustible material with limited contribution to fire development

s1: very limited smoke production, within the strictest limits established by the standard

d0: no flaming droplets or particles released in the event of fire

Compliance with these requirements allows the material to be classified in accordance with European regulations and placed on the market as a safe product for use in public and professional environments.

Melamine Resin: Fire Behavior and Flame-Retardant Properties

Open-cell expanded melamine resin is an inherently flame-retardant and self-extinguishing material.
Its fire-resistant properties derive from the high nitrogen content in its molecular structure, enabling high performance without the addition of flame retardant additives.

Fire Behaviour

When exposed to flame:

  • it does not melt or drip;
  • it tends to form a superficial char layer;

  • it produces a very limited amount of smoke;

  • it does not exhibit residual glowing combustion.

In addition to fire safety, melamine resin ensures high sound absorption performance and effective thermal insulation properties.

Main Properties

SELF-EXTINGUISHING: combustion stops once the heat source is removed.

LOW FLAMMABILITY: compliant with fire safety standards (e.g., DIN 4102 B1).

NO FLAME-RETARDANT ADDITIVES: intrinsic fire resistance.

APPLICATIONS: public environments (schools, hospitals, sports facilities), industrial settings, engine compartments, generator sets.

In addition to fire safety, melamine resin ensures high sound absorption performance and effective thermal insulation properties.

Polyester Fiber: Fire Performance

The polyester fiber used by 2B Resine achieves a reaction-to-fire classification of B-s2,d0.

It is a material suitable for applications in environments requiring specific fire safety performance standards.

Fire Behaviour

SELF-EXTINGUISHING: combustion occurs only in the presence of a flame and stops once the heat source is removed.

Treatments

FLAME RETARDANTS: chemical flame-retardant additives may be incorporated to further enhance fire resistance, depending on the intended application.

Finishes and Coverings

Per esigenze estetiche e funzionali, i pannelli fonoassorbenti possono essere rivestiti con tessuti acustici certificati, selezionati nel rispetto delle normative antincendio.

  • All fabrics applied to the panels achieve a reaction-to-fire classification of B-s1,d0.
  • Melamine resin panels may be finished in custom RAL colors, using exclusively certified water-based paints, without compromising safety performance or reaction-to-fire classification.
